Attorney General Announces Inquiry into President's Adversaries and Jeffrey Epstein Connections

On Friday, the Attorney General assigned Jay Clayton to oversee an inquiry into opponents of Donald Trump and their links with Jeffrey Epstein. This move came shortly after the president ordered her to initiate the probe.

In a statement, the Attorney General commended Jay Clayton as “one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country”. She stated, “This case will be addressed with speed and honesty to ensure public transparency.”

This action seems to diverge from a recent memorandum from justice department officials which declared that documents related to Epstein lacked grounds for further inquiries. According to the memo, investigators “lacked sufficient evidence to pursue cases against other parties.”

Trump Calls for Focus on Democrats in the Epstein Matter

The announcement coincides with growing demands from the president on lawmakers to resist the full release of Epstein-related documents ahead of an key congressional decision next week. Many Republicans are expected to back the disclosure.

Newly public emails from Epstein have brought attention to the president’s previous connections with the sex trafficker, revealing information that his knowledge of Epstein’s behavior exceeded prior admissions.

That same day, Trump announced he would ask the Department of Justice to examine Epstein’s ties with Democrats, including Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Paradoxically, Trump also referred to the “Epstein hoax” as a “scam”.
