A Tooth Fairy Tale Review: Cartoon Journey with a Touch of Family-Friendly Preteen Love Story

Throughout this cartoon adventure aimed at tweens, the fairy community is dedicated to collecting baby teeth of slumbering children and leaving gold under their pillows. Board-riding youthful nonconformist fairy Van (brought to life by Booboo Stewart) shows little enthusiasm about spending his future to gathering baby teeth—a sentiment that’s completely understandable. He’s only slightly more curious about the underlying economics of the situation: the fairies deliver the teeth to unseen goblins, who supply gold as payment. However, Van’s interest is piqued when he spots a goblin (played by Larkin Bell), who proves to be far from the hideous creature he had imagined.

A Forbidden Connection and Shared Threat

Everything is prepared for an adventure with a gentle touch of teen romance (even though it remains perfectly appropriate for younger kids). The goblin and fairy communities are separated from each other, and there’s nothing like the excitement of secrecy to unite beings as one. The two species as seen here are incredibly similar, yet each holds biased views about the opposite side. The fairies are supposed to be self-centered sorts, given to taking anything they want, while the goblins are allegedly dim-witted, foul-smelling, and primitive, but are in fact intelligent and advanced in technology.

Naturally, this scenario requires a common enemy to join forces against, and that need is met by a group of vicious spiders, with voices by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. There’s no beating about the bush with these guys: they want to eat the goblins and fairies, and they serve as quite savage, if not particularly skilled, villains.

Ideal Viewers and Final Thoughts

There aren’t very many animated films targeting the viewer group that is starting to experience early romances, but are not old enough for the content teenagers are watching instead of Twilight. Should your youngster is in the right age bracket, this is unlikely to be their next favorite movie, but it’s a decent choice.

A Tooth Fairy Tale arrives in movie theaters in Scotland from 10 October and across the United Kingdom beginning October 24.
